About me

Dear visitors and friends!

A licensed English-speaking guide in Russia`s capital Moscow. My name is Ilona Gorskaya and I am a Moscow city guide. I was born and raised here, so I know my city inside out and love it with all my heart. I graduated from Moscow State University and have two degrees in Journalism and Languages. But my true love is my city. If you’re interested to explore Moscow with a native, to wander around its streets and squares, to discover its splendor and grandeur – then you’re welcome to spend your time with me. I’ll be happy to guide you through the most hidden parts of my city and to tell you its secrets and legends.

The scope of my interests is very wide: from history and art, via literature and poetry to traveling and psychology. I am a multilingual and speak English, Spanish, Italian and French.

What are my favourite places in Moscow? Well, first of all, it’s Red Square with its candy-like mosaic-domed cathedral of Basil the Blessed… Then comes the Bolshoi theatre with its square and a quadranglee of horses run by Apollo on the top, Moscow River with its marvelous views on the Kremlin, Christ the Savior cathedral. I also like walking by the ancient walls of the New Maiden Convent with its towers and cells, thinking about the destiny of the misfortunate Princess Sofia… Old Arbat is my favourite street at night. Street musicians, portrait painters, fortune-tellers… Everything looks so mysterious when the night is young! So, if you are looking for a guide in Moscow, why not to try to discover the city together?

And finally, Sparrow Hills. “The Crown of Moscow”, as it is called. It looks so mysterious at night that you think to yourself: why not to stay in this city forever?

Is it romantic in Moscow? - A friend asked me the other day.
You know, I fell lonesome and silly, being so far away.
Yes, it is romantic in Moscow, when temperature falls below 30 degrees.
And you have put on your mittens and scarf when you’re just about to kiss.
Yes, it is very romantic in Moscow, especially in Arbat street.
You know, it is full of street artists and every bar is stiff.
You know its romantic in Moscow, especially in Sparrow Hills.
But if you come here yourself, you know that one day you will miss
A stretchy Ostankino tower and maybe the Crimean bridge,
So take my advice, dear fellow, come here before you get rich!
